Dennis Yarmouth Ecumenical Council to Prevent Homelessness of St Pius X, South Yarmouth

Gift Card Program Challenge

DYECH News Bulletin

Dennis-Yarmouth Ecumenical Council for the Prevention of Homelessness

On June 1st, St. Pius X Church will begin a campaign to increase participation in this program to prevent homelessness for families on the Cape.  At present, only 1% of our 3,000 parish families are participating.  We CAN do better than 1%!

Consider this:  If only 10% of the families registered in the parish bought $50 worth of cards per week, our parish could prevent three families per month from becoming homeless.

Who are  DYECH and HAC?

DYECH is an ecumenical group with members from 13 area churches.  Our mission is to provide assistance to families needing temporary assistance to remain in their homes. We raise funds by selling gift cards and through concerts, dinners and donations.  All money raised in this program is donated to the Homelessness Prevention Program of the Housing Assistance Corporation (HAC) to help Cape families who are at risk of losing their homes in times of crisis.

How can I help?

Purchase cards after weekend Masses in the sacristy for your own shopping needs.  Cards are available for the following stores in various denominations from $10 to $100.

  • Shaws

  • Stop & Shop

  • Ring Brothers

  • Petersons

  • Dennis Public Marke

  • CVS

Start a habit – save a home!

Your card keeps its value and there is no expiration date.

DYECH is able to purchase these cards at a 5% discount, so when you pay face value, that 5% is returned to DYECH and donated to the Homeless Prevention Program of HAC.

What will it cost to participate?

It costs you nothing to use the cards and you give your neighbors a helping-hand—a chance to stay in their homes in a time of crisis.

How do I get started?

  • Estimate the cost of your weekly or monthly food budget

  • Purchase a card for that amount for your favorite store(s) with cash or a check made out to St. Pius X Homeless Fund.  Cards are available in the sacristy after weekend Masses, at the rectory on Thursday mornings, as well as at the monthly breakfast/brunch.

  • Use your card to buy your grocery or CVS purchases

  • Enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that you helped to keep a family in their home.

  • Enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that you helped to keep a family in their home.

Yes, it’s that easy!

Homelessness comes in all sizes

Can I make a donation if I prefer?

Yes, you can support this very worthwhile program by making donations directly to the St. Pius X Homeless Fund/DYECH.

Can I buy cards for gifts for people to use off-Cape?

Yes, cards make great gifts for college students and elderly relatives and neighbors.  They can be used at any participating store location.

Please participate in this St. Pius X stewardship opportunity.  Together we can make a difference.  Let’s make it a habit to help.

Whatsoever you do for the least of my brethren…”

FOOD CERTIFICATES FOR CHRISTMAS GIFTS:  We encourage all to consider the purchase of food certificates as gifts this Christmas. These certificates come in denominations of $10, $25, $50, and $100. They make perfect gifts for the individuals who deliver your mail, packages, and newspapers as well as those who beautify your hair, nails, and pets. They are available in the sacristy after mass on the weekends and in the rectory on Thursdays. In addition to being a very practical gift, you will be assisting the Dennis Yarmouth Ecumenical Council to Prevent Homelessness in keeping families under a warm roof this winter.

Together, we can make a difference.
